The Secrets of Sonic Superstars

Among a seemingly endless swath of Sonic the Hedgehog content like Sonic Frontiers, Sonic X Shadow Generations, Dream Team, Origins Plus and probably a bunch of other stuff I don't remember, Sonic Superstars made its debut a few months ago, finally delivering on a follow-up to Sonic Mania after a 5 year 2D classic Sonic hiatus.
So, does Sonic Superstars hold a candle to the Sega Genesis classics? Was it really a good idea to release it the same week as Super Mario Wonder? Will I think of some other third thing?
In this video, I ignore all of these important questions and choose instead to fixate on a bunch of useless easter eggs and trivia, probably because I'm a shameless man-child.

Thanks for talking about why you like Sonic R, but your perception of what people think of it is a bit off. It had mixed-to-negative reception when it came out but is remembered a lot more fondly today. I've never heard people say it's bad aside from UA-cam videos and Reddit posts saying it's not as bad as people say. You're always gonna find people online somewhere hating on stuff, but it's literally just Sonic characters running through 3D stages and anyone who played it got exactly what they asked for. There's nothing to hate. If some characters are "too weak" or "too OP," just don't pick them? Aside from Amy in a car, they pretty much have the exact abilities they've had in previous games. Think the tracks are too simple? Find the collectibles. You control your experience. And I'm sure you're aware from these comments that nobody thinks the soundtrack sucks either.
Yeah, if I made this video today I think I would have taken a second pass at a lot of what I said here. I wish I’d focused a bit more on how public perception has warmed to it in the past decade or so. Public perception was generally negative for the majority of the game’s legacy, but in recent years it’s become more nuanced than just the blanket statement that it was a bad game overall. Stating the music “sucks” was also misguided, I think I had misunderstood my own enjoyment of the game’s music as ironic, but I’ve since come around to the idea that Sonic R’s music is actually genuinely quality. I think I disagree about there being “nothing to hate” though, the game’s balance is a legitimate issue, and I stand by what I said about the lack of content and odd track design. I’m of the belief that the game’s unbalanced nature and labyrinthian tracks weren’t sensible design choices meant to allow players the freedom to play the game to their liking, but more a byproduct of the game’s lack of polish due to its rushed development schedule. Either way, I appreciate you watching the video and I appreciate your thoughts.

Sonic R had a nice concept, and while the PC release (and Sonic gems collection on Gamecube as well since it's based on the PC release) is the definitive experience of the game, it's still VERY ROUGH back then. It sure has a big roster, yes, but character balancing was NOT tested out, the 5 tracks are complex and even one of the reactive factory route has an odd case where it thinks you're going backwards while you actually follow the intended direction, and the 2 player's Balloon chase is a bit horrendous..... The rest works fine and the sonic tokens allows to fall back to third while having all 5 in order to access the challenge race. Playing Radiant Emerald as Super Sonic brings the Super Sonic Racing theme instead of its Radiant Emerald theme.
And the whole comment section was talking about the music.
